"Pole bean. Snap bean. Strong climbing habit. Pods are dark purple throughout maturing stages. Dry pods are leathery. Fully expanded pods have a weak suture string, are very flat, and can be straight or curved. Fully expanded pods measure 4.75-7" long and 0.6-0.9" wide. Purple flowers. Extensive purple coloring on leaves and stems. 6-8 seeds per pod. Hard seeded. Large seeds are light tan colored and kidney shaped. Early season and high yield when grown in 2015 at Heritage Farm. Winner of 2015 SSE snap bean taste evaluation -- sweet, tender, and moist. Donated to SSE by the late Mary Schultz (WA SC M), who obtained this variety from Dorothy Barnett of Shelton, WA. Dorothy responded to Schultz's Washington State centennial seed search in 1988 with this variety. It was given to Dorothy's parents circa 1915 by her mother's nurse, "Auntie Wilder," who reportedly brought the seed to the U.S. from Sweden circa 1890. Dorothy used it both as a snap bean and dry bean. SSE Accession # 102583. SSE BEAN 2373."
