From Victory Seeds:
"70 Days — The stems and pods of 'Bergin' beans are green with a purple blush at the "green bean" stage becoming more uniformly purple at maturity. The flowers are a pinkish-purple color. 'Bergin' bean seeds are a deep, dark purple, almost black, and are a little flatter and longer than 'Black Turtle' beans. It is an excellent green bean if picked early and is also good as a dry bean.
Interested in protecting this family heirloom for future generations, 'Bergin' was sent to us by Caitlin Pensak in 2013. She wrote, "I have an old variety of pole bean that I got from a family member in Mississippi called 'Bergin' beans (pronounced like Burgundy without the "dy"). My great-grandfather and his neighbors in Jasper County, Mississippi, grew and canned this bean in the late 1800's, and it is still being grown today in that area. It was named after a family in the area, the Bergins.""
